“Vampires reign, cults rise, and hope hangs by a thread in The Stakelander, a relentless journey through America’s undead apocalypse.”
Released in 2016, The Stakelander plunges audiences back into the bleak, blood-soaked world first introduced in Stake Land (2010). Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, the film continues the story of humanity’s fight to survive in a post-apocalyptic America overrun by feral vampires and ruthless human cults.
Set years after the events of the first film, the story reunites us with Martin (Connor Paolo), now older and hardened by loss. His quiet life in New Eden is shattered when a new vampire leader known as “The Mother” leads an attack that destroys his community and leaves him alone once again. Desperate for revenge and searching for a reason to keep fighting, Martin sets out to find his old mentor and vampire slayer, Mister (Nick Damici), in hopes of joining forces to strike back against the growing vampire threat.
As Martin and Mister navigate desolate highways and eerie ghost towns, The Stakelander serves up brutal action, grisly vampire attacks, and the constant tension of human betrayal. The vampires are more vicious and organized than ever, while twisted cults worshipping the creatures add an extra layer of terror to an already merciless world.
Visually, the film retains the gritty, haunting atmosphere of its predecessor, with striking shots of barren landscapes, blood-soaked skirmishes, and the silent, lurking menace of creatures waiting in the shadows. Nick Damici’s grizzled performance as Mister anchors the film, bringing a mix of stoicism and weary humanity to the apocalyptic chaos.
Beyond the vampire carnage, The Stakelander explores themes of survival, grief, and the fragile spark of hope that keeps people moving forward even in the darkest times. It’s a stark, relentless journey through a world where the line between monsters and men is disturbingly thin.
