Set in the aftermath of a fictional modern Middle Eastern uprising, the story reunites a new generation of soldiers—Captain Elijah Ward (John David Washington), Specialist Ramírez (Diego Luna), and maverick ex-mercenary Reece Dalton (Garrett Hedlund)—who stumble upon intelligence revealing the location of stolen gold hidden deep beneath a fortified warlord compound. At first, it’s about the payday. But as their covert mission unfolds, they uncover mass graves, civilian hostages, and the dark web of arms deals and international betrayal surrounding the gold itself.

Each of the “kings” has their own internal war: Ward, struggling between loyalty and guilt; Ramírez, driven by rage and loss; and Dalton, numb from years of bloodshed. Together, they’re forced to reckon with what it means to “do the right thing” in a place where every side has dirty hands.

Villeneuve’s direction brings searing realism and poetic intensity. Sweeping drone shots of war-torn villages are contrasted with intimate, agonizing close-ups.
