Triple Threat (2019): Three Warriors. One War. No Rules.

Three legends. One mission. Zero mercy.

Triple Threat (2019) is a no-holds-barred martial arts showdown that brings together three of the world’s most electrifying action stars—Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa, and Tiger Chen—for a globe-smashing, bone-crunching ride of fists, fury, and honor. Directed by Jesse V. Johnson, this action-packed film doesn’t waste time on fluff—it gets straight to the point: world-class fighters, brutal choreography, and a revenge plot soaked in sweat and gunpowder.

The story kicks off when a billionaire’s daughter, Xian (Celina Jade), becomes the target of a deadly assassination plot after vowing to dismantle a powerful crime syndicate. A team of elite mercenaries is hired to take her out, but they didn’t count on three men with very personal reasons for stepping in: Payu (Tony Jaa), Long Fei (Tiger Chen), and Jaka (Iko Uwais). Together, this unlikely trio must protect her, navigate betrayals, and take down an army of killers led by ruthless enforcer Collins (Scott Adkins).

Triple Threat': A Stacked Cast Of Martial Arts Action Superstars Are Woefully Misused In This Mediocre Shoot 'Em Up [Review]

What makes Triple Threat special isn’t its plot—it’s the action pedigree. This film is a love letter to martial arts cinema, featuring choreographed fight scenes that are fast, fluid, and gloriously violent. Whether it’s a jungle ambush, hand-to-hand combat in tight corridors, or rooftop showdowns under heavy rain, the film constantly delivers the kind of kinetic energy only practical stunt work and true martial artists can offer.

Despite the language differences and minimal backstories, the chemistry between the leads works because they speak the universal language of action. There’s mutual respect, shared rage, and a ton of flying knees. And the villains, especially Scott Adkins, bring the pain and presence to match.
