Centigrade (2020) – Trapped by Ice. Tested by Fear.

They stopped for the storm. The storm never let them go

Centigrade (2020) is a claustrophobic survival thriller inspired by terrifying true events. With its minimalist setting, relentless tension, and psychological realism, the film traps its characters—and its audience—inside a frozen nightmare where every breath fogs the air and every decision can lead to death.

Set in Norway, the story begins with Naomi and Matt, an American couple who pull over during a snowstorm and fall asleep inside their car. When they wake up, they’re entombed in ice. The car doors won’t budge. There’s no cell signal. No one knows where they are. Worse: Naomi is eight months pregnant.

What follows is not just a fight against the cold, but a test of their relationship, trust, and will to survive. As days pass, food and water run low. Hope flickers and tempers flare. Paranoia begins to set in—should they stay and wait for rescue, or try the impossible and escape into the freezing unknown? Naomi, determined to protect her unborn child, pushes against despair, while Matt begins to spiral, haunted by guilt and helplessness.

With almost the entire film set inside the cramped, frost-covered car, Centigrade thrives on intimacy and raw performance. Every sound—shifting ice, cracking glass, a distant avalanche—is amplified. The film strips survival down to its most primal elements: heat, hunger, love, and fear. And in doing so, it becomes less about escape, and more about endurance.

There are no monsters here. No killers. Just two people versus nature… and time.
